 We showed you the prototype version of the Tsar Bomba at last year's Eurobike show, but Da Bomb is now ready to go into production with their eye catching machine. The 9" travel Bomba uses a single pivot and linkage activated rear end which may look similar to other designs on the market, but the bike uses different pivot points that will result in a very different personality on the trail. The frame retails for $1899 EUR in the gold color shown, $1799 EUR for either blue or red, and ticks all of the boxes required of a proper downhill bike: ISCG-05 chain guide tabs, sealed bearing pivots all around, a tapered head tube and a 12 x 150mm aluminum rear axle as stock. The frame weighs in at 11 lbs including the rear shock. That figure may be higher than some more expensive options, but the sturdy construction looks to be ready for any abuse that you can dish out.  Da Bomb has gone with a single pivot swingarm design combined with a linkage to modify the leverage rate in order to provide a supple early stroke and enough bottom out resistance to handle large hits.  Is this burly enough for you? The bike's massive rear end should be stout enough for even the largest and most aggressive riders. There is no accommodation for smaller rotors on the rear of the Tsar Bomba, with the rear caliper bolting directly to the bike's 8" post mounts without requiring an adapter.  At just 11mm tall, the Bare Bones pedal is among the thinnest available. In order to measure up so thin Da Bomb as moved the outermost sealed bearing outside of the CNC'd pedal body, protecting it via a metal shroud. An external nut at the end of the axle allows you to adjust the pedal's free spin, less if you are dirt jumping or more if you have them on your all-mountain bike. Holding your feet in place are eight hex head pins per side that thread in from opposite pedal face. The pins themselves are of a standard size, meaning that you can easily find replacements, longer than stock if desired, at your local supply store. Platform size measures up at 105mm x 100mm, and they weigh a competitive 343 grams for the set. Color choices include chrome, anodized black, red and latte brown. | |
